We have a 2018 Enclave and have been wondering about its block heater, it draws around 2.6 amps, which seems normal, but it still feels cold and doesnt seem to warm up much. I replaced the cord recently, so it's not thermostat controlled. From what I can tell, the heater sits in a threaded hole in the block, like a thermowell, and isn't fully in the coolant. Is that how it's supposed to be?

Alright. So no problem at all? Is 15mins of preheating good already?Yes, that's normal for some block heaters, they heat the metal, not the coolant directly. If it draws 2.6 amps steadily, it's working, but warmth may take time to spread.
